  1. Community Bulletin Posting Sites How is Twillingate Unique?

Why study bulletin boards??? • They seem to be an important communication tool, because we find them in every community. • But we don’t know very much about how they are used. • What is their role in relation to other communication tools, such as newspapers, radio, and television? • What can we learn about the differences between communities by studying their bulletin boards?

  3. What did we find in Twillingate? We found 23 Bulletin Boards… These were in private businesses, a church, the town office, and the public library.

  4. In comparison with some other communities… • We found that Twillingate’s bulletin boards had a much lower percentage of ‘commercial’ postings. And a much higher percentage of ‘informal economy’ postings. What might be the reasons for this?

  5. We also found that Twillingate had much fewer notices posted having to do with community events or voluntary associations. What might be the reasons for this??
