  3. Area V Priorities • Student Achievement • Citizenship and Character Development • Personal Development • Market Share

  4. Student Achievement Area Outcome #1: • Each student will meet or exceed provincial grade level standard of achievement • Students will meet or exceed the provincial grade level standard of excellence

  5. Strategies • Develop learner pathways to explore career options and make transitions into, within, and across learning systems and the workforce • Refine information literacy strategy to incorporate technology in all curriculum as an important tool for learning to enhance student skills in critical thinking, research, communication and productivity

  6. Strategies cont. • Reposition the learning model to increase high school completion rates through integrated strategy of 21st century learning, assessment and curriculum • Increase the number of students in the RAP and Work Experience programs

  7. Strategies contd. • Build 21st century libraries to meet the flexible and multifaceted needs of our learners • Teach thinking skills that will enable each student to select, evaluate and use information appropriately

Strategies contd. • Support the instructional leadership capacity of principals to improve teaching and learning (in partnership with learning leaders and AP’s) to provide a more comprehensive view of student achievement, specifically in the areas of: - assessment - curriculum and diversity - information literacy

  9. Strategies contd. • Create and implement job embedded professional development that provides teachers and principals mastery of pedagogical principles of inquiry to support current context of 21st century learning for all learners

  10. Citizenship and Character Development Area Outcome #2: Each student is a responsible citizen who will possess the character and integrity to do what is right, act morally, and treat others with compassion, fairness and respect.

  11. Strategies • Enhance, expand, and integrate curriculum to create informed and involved members of the local, national, and global communities through the integration of ICT • Develop and implement projects and initiatives that focus on encouraging character development ex: student development, partnership project • Teach ethical behaviour and self accountability in the use of information

  12. Personal Development Area Outcome #3: Each student will acquire the skills, attitudes and knowledge to achieve personal, highest potential.

  13. Strategies • Implement effective programming for all students, specifically: - those with learning disabilities (L & L classes) - those who qualify for K and E - all students with special needs - ESL learners - Aboriginal learners

  14. Market Share Area Outcome #4: Each student who resides in Area V chooses the Calgary Board of Education based on high quality programs.

Strategies • Build positive relationships between parents, schools, communities and the Calgary Board of Education • Establish Community Engagement processes in communities without schools • Use long range accommodation planning process to engage the community in establishing new instructional programs, maintaining or expanding programs of choice

  16. Strategies cont. • Implement a long term revitalization plan to ensure that viable learning programs are offered in quality facilities with necessary resources to improve student performance
