Case study Jamie - full time student Had previous counselling for anxiety Represented to counselling services with low mood and suicidal thoughts Had a couple of sessions with counselling service and was advised to see GP GP Referred to CRHT
CRHT opinion • Having suicidal thoughts daily about jumping off a bridge, or hanging or drowning himself • Minimal protective factors • Some biological symptoms, some lack of motivation, less sleep but otherwise going to lectures and looking after himself, still in contact with family and friends and continued social activities • No drugs alcohol , mum had depression, father unwell • Admitted to service had 3 week admission
outcome • Jamie commenced on antidepressant • Alternate day contact to assess risk • Education and anxiety management • Decrease in suicidal thoughts • Treatment commenced • Approached tutor • Engaging with counselling services and GP • Discharged from CRHT after 3 weeks
Why CRHT - risk Having daily suicidal thoughts No protective factors Had started to test out suicidal plan – had stood at the bridge Willing to engage Hadn’t accessed services at early stages
