Vocabulary • Paraphrase: (verb) to put something in your own words • Example: I always paraphrase what the teacher says when I take notes.
Vocabulary • Inquiry: (noun) Searching for answers by asking questions • Example: In AVID, I try to improve my inquiry skills so that I can perform better in all my classes.
Vocabulary • Rigorous: (adjective) Challenging or difficult • Example: My goal is to take the most rigorous classes so I am prepared when I get to college.
AVID • AVID is an acronym that stands for: Advancement Via Individual Determination • AVID is a program that prepares students for college. It is NOT a remedial class. • A remedial class is a class for students who are behind. • AVID is a class that focuses on note-taking skills, organization, study-skills and other important skills.
