Peasants revolt • France was experiencing worst famine ever • People were spending 80% of income just on bread • Peasants resentful towards 1st and 2nd Estates for being unjust • Wanted to end Monarchy
change happens • Gov’t responds: • stops Feudal system • Everyone must pay taxes • All men enjoy natural rights…life, liberty, property
Riots and rebels • Rebels begin riots and kill any nobleman/clergy • “Reign of Terror” • Rebels hunt down anyone against riots • 30,000 ppl are sent to the guillotine
Impact of revolution • Monarchy/Feudal Systems are gone • France becomes more democratic • Power now shifts more towards middle/working class
