  1. OUR ANIMAL QUESTIONS We will ask you two questions for each of our seven animals. You will have to answer them.

  2. THE TUNDRA SWAN 1.Why do the tundra swans choose to nest near wetlands? 2.Why do the tundra swans choose to go close to the Arctic Circle?

  3. ANSWERS 1 They eat a lot of plants that grow underwater. 2.There aren’t many predators in the Arctic Circle.

  4. GRAY WOLVES What part of the gray wolf’s body does it use to attack its prey? How does the gray wolf use scent to communicate?

  5. ANSWERS It uses its teeth and its claws. It knows other wolves’ scents.

  6. ERMINE Why is the tip of the ermine’s tail black? Why is most of the ermine’s body white?

  7. ANSWERS… The ermine’s tail tip is black so that it can tease other animals. The ermine’s tail turns white in the winter so that it can blend in with the snow.

  8. THE GIANT PANDA Why do they mostly eat bamboo? Why do they only live in Asia?

  9. ANSWERS • A lot of bamboo grows in Asia. 2. Bamboo mostly grows in Asia and Giant Panda’s need bamboo to live.

  10. THE GALAPAGOS TORTOISE Why is the Galapagos Tortoise's neck so long? Why is the Galapagos Tortoise’s shell so big?

  11. ANSWER • The Galapagos Tortoise’s neck is so long so that it can reach plants in a higher place. 2. The Galapagos Tortoise can protect itself with its large shell.

  12. THE KIWI BIRD Why is the kiwi so puffy? Does the kiwi run fast?

  13. ANSWERS • The feathers on the kiwi grow straight up when it is young. • The kiwi does run really fast with its strong legs.

  14. ARCTIC KRILL Why do the Arctic Krill have red spots on their shell? Why do the Arctic Krill have so many legs?

  15. ANSWERS The Arctic Krill has red spots on its shell so that it can blend in with its surroundings. The Arctic Krill has many legs so that it can walk on the sea floor.
