  2. NREN-SIG • The Special Interest Group for Emerging National Research and Education Networks (NREN SIG) is a forum for reporting and discussing interesting activity anywhere is the world. • For the Internet2 Community. • Some areas have attracted more interest and discussion than others.

  3. Current and Proposed Interest Groups • Current Regional Groups • Caribbean (led by Heidi Alvarez) • South Asia (led by Jim Williams) • Africa • Recently Proposed adding • Central Asia • Middle East

  4. Middle East Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria

  5. Central Asia Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan. The Silk Project also includes Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

  6. Goals • Keep each other up-to-date. • Raise issues important to the region. • Help guide additional activities to enhance R&E network connectivity within and to the region. • Collaboration between US universities and these regions is particularly interesting. • Possibility of a workshop.

  7. We Want to Hear From You. • If you have knowledge about either of these regions • If you would be interested in knowing more • If you would be willing to serve as the regional coordinator.

  8. Resources • Mailing list. • Wiki space. • Occasional phone/video conferences. • Report at MM.
