“Don’t leave your cookie on the floor!” Ask your student about this!!! Even when things get tough, persevere as though you really want the end result!
Behavior Expectations • Don’t talk when others are speaking. • Be in your seat when others are speaking. • Pay attention and follow instructions when they are given. • Leave people and things better than you found them! Does your student remember the words we will practice???

*Most quizzes WILL NOT count towards the final grade by the end of the quarter because they assess current learning. You will see several grades in the grade book that look like this… Don’t be too worried when you see lower grades early in the quarter!
AR Requirements English 8 Pre-AP Four books each nine weeks or a total of 30 points. Three books each nine weeks or a total of 25 points. Choose a book from the suggested reading list OR identify elements in one book that connect to the quarter’s theme. Complete one AR book project per quarter. Complete one high school data sheet per quarter. • Three books each nine weeks or a total of 25 points. • Choose a book from the suggested reading list OR identify elements in one book that connect to the quarter’s theme. • Complete one AR book project per quarter. Consider reading the same book as your student!
Homework • Students will have at least a little homework MOST nights. • Late homework will be accepted for one week after it is due. I will not accept late homework the week before the end of the quarter (unless students have talked to me previously). Can your student teach you what s/he is learning???
Why homework? • Homework practices and enriches the material we are learning in class. There is not enough time to teach, practice, and remediate all the material in the standards. • Homework teaches independence and the core value of responsibility. • Regular homework helps prepare students for high school. Most worksheets will be on my website!
Miscellaneous • Public Library • great resource, especially for picky readers. • I highly encourage kids to get a public library card. • Internet • Access outside of school • Study tables Email me! christine.stultz@portage.k12.in.us
