Our Godly Position in Life Eph 4:17-5:17
Godly Position • Self - Be woven in not “separated from the life of God” (V18) due to unrighteous living: • indulging impurity and lust for more (v19) • put off old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires (v22) • Family/Neighbour -Behave as one loving body: • Not let anger linger (v26) lest devil get foothold • Share with those in need (v28) • Words that build up others and meet their (not your) needs (v29) • Be kind, compassionate, forgiving just as Christ forgave you (v32) • Free of sexual immorality and coarseness • Community/Work/Church – Be as light to the world: • Exposing darkness (v11) • Making the most of every opportunity (v12) by understanding the Lord’s will.
Godly Position • Eph gives us: • A compass for a healthy life • A Godly purpose for our life • A picture of how our daily lives can be a witness • A promise of a fulfilled life if we walk with a loving God • Eph warns us (as a re-enforcement): • What not to do both practically and spiritually.
So What Goes Wrong • We allow the distractions of life to draw us away from God – how often do we assess: • Where spend money? • Where spend time? • Quality and purpose of our relationships? • We fall for the grass is greener: • Short term over long term attractiveness and reward • Relationships • We build relationships that are cosy and nice , not with those God has placed before us (especially if messy)! • Build relationships with people who’ll tell you what you need to hear, not necessarily what want to hear! • We become exhausted with • Juggling seemingly competing demands God, family and work • Demands and dysfunctional nature of a fallen world
A Biblical Blueprint For Life It • Be honest and true to yourself and God: • Your God journey is unique and just as valuable as another - embrace where God has put you. • We are not perfect - beating yourself up is self defeating, so celebrate/record each life changing step towards Christ. • Be purpose driven not work driven . • Be motivated love others. • Be open to sharing/be accountable to another Christian: • Might be painful, but more likely life changing! • Be prepared to say no without guilt: • Be aware of your limitations and avoid burn out. • Be aware your life is the primary witness of your faith • Press the pause button before action/speech more often. • Engage with the Holy Spirit within.
