SMALL BUSINESSES Companies with fewer than 50 workers will not be penalized if they do not provide healthcare coverage. Starting October 1, small businesses can elect to purchase insurance for their employees at any time, with coverage beginning as soon as January 2014. 16
Magic Numbers 17 • Small businesses may qualify for tax credits if : • there are less than 25 full-time employees; • average annual wage is less than $50,000, and; • employer pays at least 50% of the premium for each employee.
