The Milkmaid and Her Pail • Lesson: It’s fine to dream about what you will do with money you don’t yet have, but until the money is actually in your hands, don’t spend it or make any promises about what you’ll do with it. Only when you have the money can you feel free to turn your dreams into reality. • In the fable Patty was counting on the money she would get from selling the milk before she had it, and was so caught up in her plans that she “tossed her head ..and the milk was spilt.”

The Ant and the Grasshopper • Lesson: The grasshopper was not planning on future necessities (needs) because he was counting on what he already had. • When the Ant recommended he lay up food for the winter, he commented “Why bother…we have got plenty of food at present.” When winter came he had no food and was dying of hunger.
