SONY HandyCams • HD • 1-5 record on internal memory • If camera memory is full or low, see me • 6 records on SD card ONLY • Can take photos, so make sure you’re on video mode • 1-5 are touchscreen on the viewfinder and the shutter doors open automatically • 6 is not a touchscreen and the shutter doors are manual • USB cable built in • Remain on chargers in while in storage • Built in mic near lens • Autofocus (no manual) • Zooms • Good for any filming situations • Canon T3i SLRs • HD • All record on 32 Gig SDHC cards ONLY • Made for photos, so must change to video setting on mode dial • Import footage by plugging SDHC card into computer • Batteries are separate and on chargers in while in storage • Viewfinder flips open on back • Built in mic near lens • Autofocus and Manual Focus • Can use a variety of lenses • Zooms • Good for any filming situations • Necessary for throwing the focus and selective focus shots • Use a number system • All parts must be assembled • GoPro • HD • Records on mini SD card ONLY • Can take video, photos, or photos on a timer (use this for timelapses) • Import footage by plugging mini SD card with adapter into computer • Battery stays in camera • Poor Mic • Stays in shell case • Autofocus (no manual) • No Zoom • No Viewfinder • Good for timelapses and point of views

  3. I. Equipment Storage Canon SLR Cameras Lenses ONLY the T3i records VIDEO Notice the straps go in the pockets Cameras are numbered and stored in the numbered pockets in the equipment closet Lenses are numbered and stored in the numbered pockets on the closet door

Equipment Storage Canon Caps & Numbering Canon Batteries Batteries are numbered to the specific camera they belong with and they are stored on their specific numbered chargers in the bin in the equipment closet Camera bodies and lenses have numbered caps to keep dirt and dust out. All the numbered parts remain together! When not using caps, store back in the storage pockets, not on desks!

  5. I. Equipment Storage SONY HandyCams GoPro Plugs in cabinet plug into cameras to charge Camera and parts remain in bag Cameras are numbered 1-6 and stored in white charging station. Each camera has it’s own shelf GoProis in the camera bag next to the white cabinet. There is only one GoPro Camera

  6. I. Equipment Storage There are 3 small Sony Tripods and 2 larger Canon tripods. DO NOT USE the two really big tripods! Tripods Tripods are always stored on the wood cabinet in the equipment closet

  7. I. Equipment Storage Zoom Mics Stored in the plastic cart next to the white cabinet. Top drawer. There are 5 Zoom Mics Batteries must be removed for storage

  8. I. Equipment Storage 2-Way Radios Walkie Talkies are always stored on their chargers plastic basket above the white cabinet in the equipment closet

  9. II. Equipment Sign Out You cannot use big cameras and audio kit An equipment order form must be completed with your name in order to sign out equipment. This says that you are responsible for the equipment you are signing out. Equipment restrictions and replacement costs are possible if the equipment is misused in your care

Handling the Cameras Four Basic Rules: • Do not drop cameras or subject to any physical shock • Cameras and lenses are not waterproof and should not be used in the rain or around liquids • Never touch the mirror in the Canon camera body or the glass on the either side of any of the camera lenses • Use a soft cloth, not your finger, to remove dust and fingerprints from the mirror & lenses

  11. III. Handling the Cameras • For the Canons, always place camera body cap and lens caps on when not in use • Never store lenses on their side (they can roll) • For the Sony HandyCams, always close the shutter doors when not filming

Handling the Cameras • SD Card goes into side of Canon camera with label facing the back of the camera A regular SD card goes in the side of HandyCam 6 You have to use a 32gig SDHC card for filming in the Canons. You can borrow one in exchange for your student ID The GoPro uses a mini SD card. I will handle that for you

  13. III. Handling the Cameras NO! DO NOT remove the batteries on Sony HandyCams! They go on plugged in chargers NO! YES! I will handle GoPro Battery. It can remain in camera NO! • For the Canon T3i, takecorrectnumberedbattery off charger • Open door at bottom of camera • Insert Battery in SLOWLY • Do not JAM the battery in! If it doesn’t slide right in, you are putting it in the wrong way, or you have the wrong battery (we have four different kinds of batteries)!

  14. III. Handling the Cameras • To Attach the Lens to the Canon Camera: • Align White Boxes or Red Dots • Twist Counter Clockwise until you hear a click • To Remove the Lens from the Canon Camera: • Press and hold release button next to lens, and twist clockwise Lens Release

  15. III. Handling the Cameras Canon T3i SLR Lens Grip Flash Body Mode Dial Viewfinder is LCD Screen on Back On/Off

  16. III. Handling the Cameras Canon T3i SLR Record button is on back near red dot You must switch to VIDEO CAMERA mode by aligning the icon with the white hash mark

  17. III. Handling the Cameras Canon T3i SLR • Zooming allows you to move your subject closer in frame without actually moving closer to the subject • Manually control using Zoom Ring

  18. III. Handling the Cameras Canon T3i SLR • For selective focus (throwing the focus), set switch to the MF setting • Requires you to manually focus on subject using the Focus Ring Manually adjust the focus ring!

  20. III. Handling the Cameras GoPro • Record Button • Power Button Must toggle though modes to find continuous photo mode for timelapse

Returning Equipment 4 3 1 2 When done using the Canon T3i Camera: Remove SDHC card and place at your desk Remove the battery and place on the charger with that number Put numbered body cap back on the camera body and place back in numbered pocket with strap in pocket Put numbered lens caps on lens and place back in numbered pocket

  22. I. Equipment Storage When done using the HandyCams: Plug USB Cable into Computer and import footage Place back on charger in white charging station When done using the GoPro: See me! I’ll help you get footage off the camera Store back in bag next to white cabinet

  30. Camera Review When you plug your camera into the computer USB port, which do you need to select on the touchscreen?

  31. Camera Review To delete your raw videos from the camera, go to playback mode on camera. Then, use the touch screen to go through the steps. First go to “Edit/Copy”

  33. Camera Review Select either Multiple Images or All in Event depending on what you want to delete. Then proceed to follow the on-screen instructions

  34. Camera Review When you are finished, make sure and plug the camera back in to the charger (top slot behind door).

  35. Tripod Review First, unlatch these:

  36. Tripod Review Re-latch the clips on the legs so that the tripod will stand securely.

  37. Tripod Review Set the tripod to the desired height and expand the legs outward from the base so that all three legs will be secure on the floor or other surface

  38. Tripod Review If you need more height, unlock collar, then twist or pull to extend the neck of the tripod. Then, lock collar neck

  39. Tripod Review This is the top of the tripod where you will secure the camera. The camera screws in to this base. First, pull this latch out, then remove the base from the rest of the tripod

  40. Tripod Review Once the cork base is removed from the tripod, simply screw it into the base of the camera Tripod connects by screwing base in here

  41. Tripod Review Next, with the camera secured to the base, fit the base back into the top of the tripod and close the latch securing it. TIP: Always double check to make sure the base is secured to the tripod! TIP: Never move the tripod while the camera is attached!
