Medieval tortures: By Matthew Iddon
Introduction • In Medieval Times, Torture was a form of entertainment. People would line up early in the morning, just to watch some criminal die. These are some of the worst tortures in the book:
facts • The head crusher does EXACTLY like it sounds. The victim would put their head under the cap, and their chin on a metal bar. Someone would twist the knob on the cap, and slowly crush the victims head.
Facts • The Brazen Bull was a large hollow bronze bull. The victim would be placed inside the bull, tied up. After the victim was locked in, a fire would be lit under the bull, and since metal conducts heat, the victim would feel some serious pain. As if all that wasn’t enough, a tube was put into the bull, to make the victims screams come out the bulls mouth.
Facts: • In Rat Torture, the victim would have a cage with a rat inside placed on his/her chest. The cage would slowly be heated, making the rat want to escape. But the only way for the rat to escape the cage is to claw through the victims stomach, and crawl through the victims intestines. This torture was very slow and painful.
Facts: • The Rack was a big board that the victim was tied to. The arms and legs would be slowly ripped apart when the lever was cranked. Later in history, spikes were added, to rip apart the victims spine, causing him/her to be paralyzed.
