Historical development of Okříšky Klára Hobzová
Basic information • Bohemian-Moravian Highlands • altitude: 479,435 m above the sea • territory: 658 ha • population:2 057 • number of houses: 555 • 29th May 2007 Okříšky = small town
Emblem • awarded by the chairman of Parliament on 14th May 2002 • consits of: blue board (ponds) with golden trail wheel (importance of railway for development) and silver fleur-de-lis in M shape above (symbol of Virgin Mary church)
History • first reference to Okříšky comes from 1371 • the oldest surviving village name leads to the idea that the original name was the same as the name of nearby Okřešice (accoding to the personal name Okřeša = vzkřísiti-revive) • since the 18th century name Okříško, after the formation of the Czech republic name Okříšky were used (during protektorate - Klein Wartenberg)
Castle • medieval fortress – prehussite epoch (reputedly 1375) • Knights from Hrochov rebuilt the original building in late gothic style (after 1466) • renaissance (16th century) – village aristocratic residence was built, field researche showed that ochre sgraffito covered the front facade together with built up main quad front facade • builder of the renaissance residence – Jiří Rechemberk from Želetice (1609) • during the baroque recontruction sgraffito stucco of the ground floor walls up to the ledge was plastered by rustica of rectangulars
decorative stripes height 110 and 120 cm with mermaids (found in a probe on garden facade) • the first 20 years of 18th century – wooden courtyard balcony was replaced by a brick two-storey arcade • since 1945 the castle was used by „JZD“ • small town took care of damaged castle and all the premises as a part of its possession in 2001
Reconstruction • took place since July 2002 till August 2009 • reconstruction was aproached as a return to baroque and classicism • state of the castle from 19th century is the result of the reconstruction • first the rest home arised (40 flats), then the castle was reconstructed Ceiling paintings in previous dining room

Name of Virgin Mary church • the date of origin and the name of builder aren´t known (the church with a tower was situated there before the year 1500) • so called grandstand church (the middle aged church wasn´t in the village but above it close to the castle, formerly a fortress) • owners of the residence built a small church outside of the fortification • the stands for the landlord and his family was a choir loft (entered through a roofed bridge from the fortress), the ground space served for the folks, the cemetery-churchyard was situated around the church
Today • the pond was replaced by tennis courts and a reservoir
