2. Orientation Process • Milford Guidance Counselors and a student panel will visit each elementary school sharing information about life at the middle level and review course selection. • May 14 during the day—5th graders will visit Milford for their Student Orientation • Summer Orientation

6. RESOURCE Period • Purpose is to extend learning or offer remediation. • Students can make up work. • Library is available. • Students can meet with teachers to ask questions about assignments.

8. GRADING • Grades will be shown by assignments that are linked to learning targets. • Grading Scale • A = 100 – 90 • B = 89 – 80 • C = 79 – 70 • D = 69 – 65 • F = 65 and lower

CHARACTER • RESPECT • All students are expected to treat each other with respect • All students will treat adults in the building with respect • All students will respect themselves by doing their best and being their best! • RESPONSIBILITY • Homework is done every night to the best of their ability • Work well in groups and participate in class • Bring all materials to school to be prepared for the day

14. LOCKERS Students will receive lockers at summer orientation. • Lockers can be accessed: • Before homeroom • Before and after lunch • End of the day

15. LUNCH • Students will have a half hour for lunch. • Students may sit where they want. • All sixth graders eat together. • Student lunch = $3.00 • Meal Plan – account is the same as elementary school. • A la carte items sold separately.

16. BUSES • Students are dropped off in the back of the school by the gym. • Students report to gym until bell. • Parent drop off is in the front of the school. • At the end of the day, students report to the back of the school to board buses in parking lot.

17. SUPPLIES • A large binder with dividers or separate 1” binders for each subject • 2 spiral bound notebooks for Social Studies – 1 per each half of the year • Supply of #2 pencils • Small pencil case or zipper pouch • Supply of erasers • Supply of lined notebook paper (with holes) • Supply of glue sticks • One colored pencil set & highlighters

18. SUPPLIES (CONTINUED) • Basic functions calculator, similar to Texas Instruments TI-30XIIS • Ear buds for use with computer programs • Flash Drive (not mandatory, but helpful)

19. Summer Reading 2014 • The goals: • To grow as learners. The more you read, the more interesting life becomes! • To create a community of readers. • To share good books and encourage others to read them. • To generate discussions with peers and teachers.

20. Summer Reading Assignment • Select at least 1 book from the Summer Reading List. • Read the book(s)! Choose the one you will share in the fall. • Use the graphic organize or sticky notes and complete the task you chose to share your summer work. When you return to school, on a designated day early in September, students will meet in discussion groups with classmates who have read the same book. • This assignment will be evidence for standard Comprehension and Collaboration
