Space Logistics Definition • Definition • Space logistics is the theory and practice of driving space system design for operability, and of managing the flow of materiel, services, and information needed throughout a space system lifecycle. Mission and Goals of the Space Logistics TC • Supply long-range vision for key space logistics topics • Space supply chain management • Move from mission-focus to long-term campaign focus • Support emerging commercial industry for space cargo/crew transport • Space infrastructure development (on the ground and in space) • Lean principles, In-space construction, repair and maintenance • Importance of logistics during entire lifecycle, including design • ISS Sustainment post-Shuttle retirement • Provide central node in network for information on space logistics • via website and newsletter, Aerospace America year-end review, journal articles, book, via committee meetings and conference sessions • Generate reports and standards for use by workers in space logistics • Provide recognition for committee members and other workers in field • via publications, via AIAA awards

Plans for 2011 • AIAA Space 2011 Conference and Exposition • 6-29 Sep, Long Beach – sponsoring Space Logistics Track (5 + 1 sessions) • Considering panel or papers session @ SpaceOps Stockholm 2012 • E-education Initiative: • Try again for live video/webexsession for young members at Space 2011 • Continue webex brown-bag lunch presentations on Space Logistics • Priorities: • Strengthen our TC: grow membership and emphasize participation • Recognize TC member contributions: awards and membership upgrades • Emphasize output: finish our Lexicon std and foster the AIAA Progress Series book completion
