2. Voluntary Pre-K Student Coding Why Pre-K Student Coding is Important TCA 49-6-108(6) “Provide an annual report….which shall include…. the number of at-risk students* served.” *at-risk is defined as meeting criteria for economically disadvantaged.

3. Voluntary Pre-K Student Coding State Funding Classification (Q) All students who participate in Tennessee’s Voluntary Pre-K (expansion or pilot funded) classes must be coded correctly to allow us to account for these students. All students enrolled in VPK classes should be coded Q.

4. Voluntary Pre-K Student Coding Economically Disadvantaged Classification (L) All students who are accepted into the program based on their family income meeting criteria set for income eligibility are coded (L) as economically disadvantaged. 90% of state funded students should meet criteria for being coded (L). All students who participate in a Head Start VPK class automatically qualify as economically disadvantaged and should be coded (L).

6. Voluntary Pre-K Student Coding Student Lunch Code Classifications • X – Free Lunch • Y – Reduced Price Lunch • Z – Student Paid Lunch (full price)

7. Voluntary Pre-K Student Coding Age Requirements • Students turning three on or before August 15, 2014 are coded as P3. • Students turning four on or before August 15, 2014 are coded as P4. If student enrolls after August 15, the age of the child at the time of enrollment does not factor into coding the student as a P3 or P4. Check the child’s birthdate to make this determination.

8. Voluntary Pre-K Student Coding Pre-K students receiving special education services Any student identified with special needs who is served in a general education pre-K should be coded with appropriate special education classification codes.

9. Voluntary Pre-K Student Coding Staggered Enrollment Up to ten attendance days may be used for staggered enrollment. All students are considered enrolled on staggered enrollment days unless the child or family is not present on days specified during the staggered attendance schedule.
