The Problem • Finding data on CMS.gov can be challenging: • Data are often difficult to locate • Search engine functionality has historically been limited • Users must regularly wade through multiple pages of results • Once found, web links to data sets are sometimes broken • This experience frustrates researchers, stakeholders, and CMS employees alike
Recent Improvements Recent changes in the CMS and HHS web space has improved access to CMS data, but there is still room for improvement: • An improved, Google-like search engine makes searching for specific topics faster, but finding specific data/information remains challenging. • Includes only select data on the Medicare program such as Hospital and Nursing Home Compare, survey results (CAHPS, HCAHPS, HHCAPHS), and quality. • Includes only a subset of data found on CMS.Gov.
