  2. Purpose of the Network Promote rigor and relevance for all students Help good schools become great schools Share best practices and resources Provide service based on 10 key components fundamental to school improvement

  3. 10 Key Components for School Improvement 1. Create a culture that embraces the belief all students need a rigorous and relevant curriculum. 2. Use data to provide a clear focus to curriculum priorities that are both rigorous and relevant. 3. Set high expectations and hold both students and adults accountable.

  4. 10 Key Components for School Improvement 4.Create a framework to organize curriculum that leads to a continuum of instruction between grades and across disciplines. Provide students with real-world applications of skills and knowledge. Create multiple pathways to rigor and relevance based upon a student’s interests, learning style, aptitude, and needs.

  22. CORR Collaborating Online for Rigor and Relevance (CORR) • Online facilitated activities to assist teachers in developing high rigor/high relevance lessons • At the conclusion, all teachers will create one high rigor/high relevance (Quadrant D) lesson • http://rigor-relevance.com

Quadrant DGold Seal Lessons Service • Submit lessons to the Network for review • The Network will review up to ten lessons and make any changes needed in order to place the lessons in Quad D and to cross-reference the lessons to state standards • Lessons are returned to school along with other lessons from participating schools • Free for members

  24. Pod casts November 2006 • Principal Sue Szachowicz discusses the changes that made Brockton High School successful by dealing with issues directly and implementing effective programs. October 2006 • Larry Gloeckler of the Special Education Institute presents data regarding students with special needs along with a call for clear school district policies and procedures. September 2006 • Ray McNultyof the Successful Practices Network discusses implementing the Learning Criteria to Support Rigor, Relevance and Relationships. All are available on the Network Web site.

  25. Network Benefits Study Tours of Successful High Schools Investigate the organizational structure, learning environment, curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Meet with school leaders, faculty, and students to learn the characteristics that contribute to the school’s success.

  26. Member Role and Responsibilities All schools must have a passion for and be committed to providing a rigorous and relevant curriculum for all students.

  27. Member Role and Responsibilities • Submit curriculum and Best Practices • for inclusion in the repository of best • practices. • Use the Best Practices Template form provided in your welcome packet or download it online at the members home page after you log in.

  28. Member Role and Responsibilities Be an active member of the Network by using its services and resources to nurture self-improvement providing support and assistance to other Network members

  29. Network Benefits Network schools are assigned a liaison who will: Provide personal assistance Respond promptly to requests Provide access to shared expertise Connect members with consultants and each other
