  2. There’s too much information! I want to find out about holidays to Jamaica- I really like beaches. I have been to the library to do some research on holidays but there is too much information. I only want information about holidays in Jamaica. What can I do to make my search better? Have a chat with your partner.

  8. Great – you’re starting to learn some ways to search carefully and quickly for information. When books are in the library we know that they are going to be full of good information. What about the internet???

  9. What sort of things might you use a search engine for?

  10. What is the name of the website we use to search the internet? Can you name some of them? Which sites are the best for kids?

  11. When you find your results how do you know which ones are the best?

  13. What if our trusted sites aren’t on the list? Why do we need to be careful about the information we find online? • Anyone can make a website • Some information online is opinion not fact • Some websites are trying to sell us things

  14. What are the clues to a good website? • Who created the website? Have you heard of the company or the person? • Is there lots of advertising on the website? • Is the website trying to entertain, persuade or give us information?

  15. Over to you! On your tables there are some pictures of websites for you to visit. You need to find: • A website with information about snakes • A website that gives you information about the countryside • A useful website to practice your times tables on Remember to be a good detective and look for clues of a good website…the website address, how it is written and how it looks!

  16. Poster competition The winner will have their poster copied for every child in the class to take home to help them stay safe when they search online.

  17. When you search online remember to be a good detective! • Always click on the search UK pages option • Remember tonarrow your search • Look at the search results carefully – some sites are not reliable!
