What is an equivalent fraction? • An equivalent fraction refers to the same, or equal amounts of fractions. When we compare them, they are the same, regardless of the difference in the denominator. • Examples could be: • ½=2/4=3/6=4/8=5/10=6/12=7/14=8/16 • To make an equivalent fraction, multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number. • For example, to change 2/3 into an equivalent fraction, multiply 2 by 2 and 3 by 2, to get 4/6.
