  1. Comparison of sideways LEANDRE 2 measurements with sounding, airborne in situ and DLR DIAL measurements C. FLAMANT IHOP intercomparison worshop 2-3 October 2003

  2. Overview and objectives • LEANDRE 2 sideways measurements in PBL: • 19 June 2002 CI case • compare average along and cross boundary L2 wvmr retrievals with UWKA in situ measurements • 14 June 2002 BLE case • compare 1st, 2nd and 3rd moment + PDF of L2 wvmr retrievals with P-3 and UWKA in situ wvmr measurements • compare 1st, 2nd and 3rd moment + PDF of L2 wvmr retrievals with DLR DIAL wvmr retrievals • compare 1st, 2nd and 3rd moment + PDF of L2 wvmr retrievals with LES simulations • LEANDRE 2 nadir measurements (A. Behrendt): • L2 Vs SRL (20 June 2002 ELLJ case) • L2 Vs DLR DIAL (8 June 2002 ELLJ case)

  3. CI mission 19 June 2002 LEANDRE 2 (sideway) and in situ measurements Leg 1: across boundary comparison P-3 UWKA zoom L2 P-3 flying at 600 m AGL / UWKA flying at 250 m AGL

  4. CI mission 19 June 2002 LEANDRE 2 (sideway) and in situ measurements Leg 5: along boundary comparison L2 (1.2-3.75 km) L2 P3 UWKA P-3 flying at 550 m AGL / UWKA flying at 550 m AGL L2 (3.75-5 km)

  5. BLE mission 14 June 2002 LEG 22a (17h13-17h23 UTC) NRL P-3: red UWKA: green DLR Falcon: blue L2 LEANDRE 2 NRL P-3: red / LEANDRE: black UWKA: green / DLR DIAL: blue DLR DIAL WVMR (1250 m MSL) PDF DLR DIAL

  6. BLE mission 14 June 2002 LEG 22b (17h26-17h36 UTC) LEANDRE 2 NRL P-3: red UWKA: green DLR Falcon: blue L2 NRL P-3: red / LEANDRE: black UWKA: green / DLR DIAL: blue DLR DIAL WVMR (1250 m MSL) PDF DLR DIAL

  7. So far… • 14 June 2002 BLE case: • 4 out of 22 legs have been analysed (16h42-17h36) • Comparison of 1st moment of lidar (L2, DLR DIAL) and in situ (P-3, UWKA) wvmr • Comparison of 1st and 2nd moment of L2 and DLR DIAL vvmr retrievals Still ahead… • 14 June 2002 BLE case: • Analyse wvmr variability for the entire mission • Compare 1st, 2nd and 3rd moment of L2 wvmr retrievals with P-3 (1 Hz) and UWKA (1 and 25 Hz) in situ wvmr data • Compare 1st, 2nd and 3rd moment of lidar (L2, DLR DIAL) and in situ (P-3, UWKA) wvmr with LES simulations
