  2. Cermet • Cermet is a material made out of metal and ceramic. • It mixes the high temperature resistance of ceramics and the strength of metal. • Cermets usually contain 20% less metal by volume.

  3. History • It was made by the Germans during WW2 . • They used this as substitute for Alloys and used it for high temperature sections of jets. • After the WW2 the US also adapted this and improved it

  4. Uses • The use of this is mainly for electronic parts that may undergo high temperatures. • This can be used for the engine parts of jets, and cutting tools instead of tungsten carbide in saws. • Cermet can be used for artificial hip transplant. • It is also a material used for fillings and prosthese.

  5. Physical Properties. • Like metals and ceramics they are smooth. • They are also hard and strong • They are good thermal insulators. • They have high boiling and melting point.
