About TERENA TERENA offers a forum to collaborate, innovate and share knowledge in order to foster the development of Internet technology, infrastructure and services to be used by the research and education community. TERENA is first and foremost a collaborative organisation. Its core business is to bring together managers, technical specialists and other people in the research networking community with their counterparts from other countries in Europe, mobilising the expertise and experience of hundreds of professionals in the research and education networking area. User Requirements in Arts Humanities and Social Sciences • Network to support content-centric activities and to retrieve information or sources of inspiration • Intensification of Internet technologies • in multi-disciplinary scientific projects, • users in Humanities and Social Sciences working together with researchers from Computer Science or Engineering departments • 3 types of usage came out from EARNEST study: • performing arts (dance, music, theater..) • virtual environment, simulation • access to information repositories
Application areas • Categories of advanced applications clustered based on technical requirements • Real-Time Collaboration technologies (video conferencing, virtual environment) • Live performances – music and dance( streaming, video) • Libraries and digital repositories • AA Infrastructures and Trust (secure federated environment) • Peer to peer technologies • Online surveys • NRENs are instrumental : provide high bandwidth and QoS • Network is part of the creative work, and new trends in the Arts lead to pedagogical changes in student curriculum
