  2. Do you want to graduate? Then be here to take and pass theHSPE !!

  3. Learning Targets • Students will understand why the HSPE is soimportant to take and pass • Students will know who takes the HSPE, when, and where • Students will learn basic HSPE preparation and test-taking strategies

  4. Why is the HSPE important? • The Reading HSPE and Writing HSPE are two state exams you must pass to graduate • The Reading and Writing HSPEs are only offered ONCE every school year

  5. Who will be taking the HSPE? • ALL 10th graders will take all parts of the HSPE • 11th and 12th graders who have not yet passed the Reading and/or Writing HSPE must test* * Your advisory teacher will tell you if you are testing

  6. When is the HSPE? • Students will take the HSPE on: • Monday, March 13th • Tuesday, March 14th • Wednesday, March 15th • Time: 8- 11 A. M. each day!

  7. What will be on the HSPE? • Tuesday, March 13th • Writing part 1* • Wednesday, March 14th • Writing part 2* • Thursday, March 15th • Reading *You must take both parts for your test to be scored

  8. Where is HSPE testing? • Advisory teachers have lists of where their students will be testing • Lists will also be posted in the hallways on HSPE testing days

  9. How to prepare for the HSPE • Know about the test: what kind, length, and what is on it. • Get the sleep and food your body needs. • Arrive at school early; be calm and unhurried. • Have the necessary materials with you: pencils, pens, etc.

  10. HSPE test-taking strategies • Read and listen to ALL directions before the test. • Before answering questions, look over the entire test and develop a plan. • Answer all questions. If unsure, do your best.

  11. HSPE test-taking strategies • On multiple choice questions, eliminate wrong answers and give your best guess if you don’t know. • Go over the test when complete, checking for mistakes. • HSPE is an untimed test: don’t rush it!
