Stress Management Strategies – analysisNHES 1.1 (ESL 11.2) • I use prayer/reflection because it helps me to put things into its proper perspective. I often find that I am too demanding of myself and place too much importance on an event. For example, I may be bothered by the fact that I did not get all homework corrected or I have an upcoming lesson plan that I still have to complete without much time to do it in. I find that when I pray/reflect I come to realize that I have blown the importance of an event out of proportion. When I examine it as compared to other events going on in the world I realize that it is not that big of a deal. Target Level 3

I often find that I am too demanding of myself and place too much importance on an event. I find that when I pray/reflect I come to realize that I have blown the importance of an event out of proportion. When I examine it as compared to other events going on in the world I realize that it is not that big of a deal. This immediately helps me to look at the event as less important and thus less of a stressor. I usually will immediately stop continually thinking about it (perseverating) so that I can be more in the present. Many of my other signs of stress also are eliminated like rapid shallow breathing, a chain of negative thoughts attacking my self-esteem or waking up at night without being able to fall back to sleep. When this happens I know that other fight or flight mechanisms are also lessened like increased heart rate and blood pressure. It allows my body to rest and recover. Target Level 4
