  3. 5. Current EventIran Protests Protests in Iran against the president didn’t work as the police fired tear gas shells and beat opposition supporters. Being uplifted by Egypt’s president steeping down, Iran protesters thought of taking down their own president. Tear gas shells were fired at protesters and they set trash cans and cars ablaze in order to protect their selves. Witnesses said that protesters injured by bullets were taken to a local hospital. Unlike in Egypt, the police and security forces used violence and force to scare off protesters. Two men were killed on Monday because of the police. Several countries have rioted across the Middle East starting with Tunesia and have spread to several other countries. Iran anti-Mahmoud Ahmadinejad protesters are trying to capture oil fields across the country. 6. Could this current event happen in our country? This current event happening in Iran probably wouldn’t happen here because we have a democratic government. With an executive, legislative, and judicial branch the government is balanced. People are the power in this country because we get to vote on our presidents and representatives. Our people wouldn’t revolt because we have many privileges like the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion. In Iran people don’t get that many rights and many people are in poverty. The president has too much power and wealth in Iran. Iran make a lot of money off of its oil production and instead of spending it on the people, he spends it on himself and his family.

  7. Angry protesters burn items

  8. Protesters swarm the streets

  9. Police use force to flush out protesters

  10. What would our country be like without the legislative branch? Our country would be very different because we couldn’t declare war. If a country like Russia or some place decided to declare war on us, we couldn’t fight back because the Legislative Branch didn’t exist. Also, we wouldn’t be able to have any presidents because the country had no branch to approve of federal officials. If a federal official like a judge or the president committed a rime, there wouldn’t be anybody to impeach the person. We would be able to roam free without the restraint of laws because the legislative branch didn’t exist. There would be no one to regulate foreign relationships. For example, the U.S. wouldn’t have any allies during wars if there was no congress. The United States would be very different and more disunited without this branch of government.
