EDHS students were involved in a conflict situation the week of Jan. 5th. • The fight did not happen directly on school grounds but our school became the target of a social media terroistic threat. • Thanks to our students, parents, teachers and community this threat was prevented. • People were PRO-ACTIVE and the suspect was apprehended before school stared the following day. EDHS Conflict Resolution
List 3 types of conflict that you may experience here at EDHS or in your life outside of school. • Take 5 minutes to discuss with those around you and as a class. Daily Conflicts
Here at EDHS we (administrators, teachers, counselors, security, support staff, students and parents) have a common goal, and that is to prevent conflict from happening or escalating. • How can we accomplish this? • By being PRO-ACTIVE! Dealing with Conflict as a Team.
Step one- • Let an adult know of a situation you are aware off (you may remain anonymous). • Inform an adult of a situation that you are involved in or might be involved with so they can help you (if you are involved you can not remain anonymous, however we will help you handle it before it gets out of hand). • There are two sides involved in every conflict, we need to hear both sides. • We want to help, the only way we can help is if you let us know! Be PRO-ACTIVE
2. Step two- • After an adult is aware of the situation both parties will be contacted by our security staff, counselors and assistant principals. • A conflict mediation will be scheduled. Be PRO-ACTIVE
3. Step three- • Conflict mediation takes place. • Both parties will be present, this will help get any grievances out in the open in a safe, controlled atmosphere. • When we address the problem we can prevent the conflict from escalading. Being PRO-ACTIVE=Mediation
If both parties do not come to an agreement, further administrative action can and will be taken. No mediation= Consequences
You will encounter conflict at some point during your life but the key is to know how to handle it. • You will not always agree with everyone but you can learn to compromise. • Conflict will make you a stronger individual. • By learning how to properly deal with conflict, you can be an example to those around you. • Do not be afraid of conflict, it is best that you face it and resolve it in a mature fashion.
