  1. This is an example of how you can use PowerPoint to reinforce teaching word decoding using the Nonverbal Reading Approach. The Nonverbal Reading Approach (NRA)(Heller, Fredrick, & Diggs, 1999; Heller, Fredrick, Tumlin, & Brineman, 2002) is a method developed by Dr. Kathy Heller at Georgia State University to teach students who do not have the ability to use verbal speech how to decode using internal speech (see Coleman-Martin, Heller, Cihak, & Irvine, 2005 for more information about using PowerPoint with the NRA). • You are free to use this in any way, but please retain original credit.
