San Antonio - Military City, USA San Antonio, Texas is sometimes referred as a “Military City” because there are several U.S. military bases. Almost everyone that served in the Air Force received their Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base, located in southwest San Antonio. In northeast, we have Randolph Air Force Base, where many pilots trained. North of downtown there is Fort Sam Houston, an Army post. It is the Defense Department’s largest inpatient hospital. Many former military members and retirees that were stationed here liked San Antonio and moved here after their service. So, as you can see, there is good reason that San Antonio is “Military City USA.”
