  1. The Question Without An Answer “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:31-38)

  2. A Hypothetical Question? • Who can gain the whole world? • But what if you could…What profit! • Think of a scale… • Not a random question, but one in context. • After 3 years of teaching, the cross mere weeks ahead. They have the information. Just need to process it in view of eternity. • WHO IS JESUS? Mk. 8:27f • THE CHRIST OF GOD!

  3. A Confession All Should Make • We have all the evidence presented to us. • Our faith is as firm as Peter’s – 2 Peter 1:17-19 • “I believe in Jesus”. So what… • Simply to believe isn’t enough. I can believe all about Him and still sell myself

  4. A Principle All Should Know • Following the confession is a new life. • “Suffer – Rejected – Killed – Raised. • “Get Back Satan” – to the man who had just confessed Him. • Matt. 16:22 – the voice of the enemy of souls. • Sometimes toward the end of a game we “quit playing to win, and play not to lose.” • Christ on Calvary – that’s God’s way. The way we reject • V. 35 – satan’s voice

  5. “It is no doubt for my own good that I have been so generally prevented from leading an Epicurean life, for it is a life almost entirely selfish. Selfish, not self-centered…The distinction is important. One of the happiest men and the most pleasing companions I have known was intensely selfish. On the other hand I have known people capable of real sacrifice whose lives were nevertheless a misery to themselves and to others, because self-concern and self-pity filled all their thoughts. Either condition will destroy the soul in the end. But till the end, give me the man who takes the best of everything, and then talks of other things rather than the man who serves me and talks of himself…” C.S. Lewis

  6. A Problem We All Face • How is a man lost? • Defiance? Yes, a few. • Denial? Yes, a few. • Drifting! Yes, most • No cross, no pain. No commitment. We look for the easy way.

  7. How Is A Soul Saved? • Salvation doesn’t mean volunteering for the “mission” field. Just stand for Jesus where you are. • But we need a purpose. • Converted people lay at the feet of Jesus their right to be “myself”. Gal. 2:20 • Have you faced that? #431 – None of self and all of thee.” • It’s so easy to believe right and live for self. • Lay at Jesus feet your independence, your ambition, your all.

  8. A Danger Everyone Should Avoid • V. 38 • Looking to gain the world, sooner or later, we will be ashamed of Jesus. • And He will be ashamed of us. • What profit to hear Him renounce us? • Am I a Christian? Not, Have I been baptized? Was I “raised” right? • Did I lay my real self at Jesus feet – forever?
