James 4:13-17 What is Your Life?
Throughout Scripture, we learn the truth of life’s brevity. • “Truly as the Lordliveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death” (1 Sam 20:3). • “My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope. O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good” (Job 7:6-7).
We’ve all known people who were here one minute and with the Lord the next. • In our text, James speaks to some people who had forgotten that Life is Uncertain!
Since “Lifeis Uncertain,” how should we live? • Some live in fear. • James, however, tells us the way to live: “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” (v 17). • Often talk about “sins of omission” from this text. • But, the context is: “Because life is uncertain, I need to do the right thing NOW!”
Be a Christian now (2 Cor 6:2). • Forgive now. • Put away sin now.
Think seriously about what good you need to do in your life. Do it now!
