DivyaSriram Thanks to Anna Hoppe, Ben Dickerhoff, Aleko, ManasiRamachandran, Ryan Amelon, Steve Lin, Tatiana Correa-Leibfried, and Professor Raghavan BioMedical Eng Internship
What is Biomedical Engineering? • Shadowing • Being a researcher • Not working for a company • High School to Graduate Student Expectations
Anna’s Project • Learning about aneurysms • Understanding her project: Coiling Procedure • Possible reason for failure of success: shrinking coil • Test through finding residual fluid in sac allow • Scans to 3D models • Working with Kelly • Angiogram comparisons My Role: Shadowing
Ben’s Project • Heart Valves • Bioprostheticvs Mechanical • Using stent grafts (for aneurysm treatments too) • Properties of nitinol: elasticity and shape memory • Flow Loop • Flow and Pressure • Replication of the heart flow is neat • Mimicking environment as best as possible • Compliance, resistance, pressure sensors My Role: Shadowing
Registration • Determining changes through alignment of different cases • Learning to choose correct areas to match • Using software: 3D Slicer • Simple process • Frustration with software: fixing errors, time consuming, tedious My Role: Projects
Working on projects from research and testing perspective; not in a company The overlap between the math and science areas Attitude towards engineering OverAll
Possibly courses related to engineering and more math • Experience working with software • Help me with more application based projects • Working with errors • Majoring in Biology • Applying to UC’s but UI too! The Future From Now
