1. Read Together It’s not about the counting the minutes you’ve read together; it’s about the reading time together that counts!
Reading together can look like this… • Your child reads the whole book to you.

Goldilocks’ Rule Find a book that is not too hard, not too easy, butjust right.
5 Finger Rule Just right! 0 - The book is too easy 1-3 Fingers – JUST RIGHT! 4-5 Fingers - challenging 5+ Fingers - too hard right now!
If your child struggles to read, these are ‘good fit’ books … • Predictable books • Rhyming books • Pattern books • Books with one or two sentences on a page • Picture books
If your child is on grade level, these are ‘good fit’ books for your child… • beginning chapter books like Henry and Mudgeby Cynthia Rylant, Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel, Danny and the Dinosaur by Syd Hoff, • beginning non-fiction books, look for words such as “emergent readers” or Level 1 or Level 2.
If your child is above grade level, these are ‘good fit’ books … • Chapter books in a series such as Amelia Bediaby Peggy Parish • Magazines such as Scholastic and National Geographic • Fairy Tales and cultural variations and twists • Biographies • Non-fiction books
