  3. You need to look at the VTAC guide Make sure that you have done all the prerequisites and extra requirements first!

  4. Before you apply • The VTAC guide has information on a lot of different courses at TAFE and University

  5. What are prerequisites? • These are VCE subjects that you have to successfully complete to get into the course • Have you met the prerequisite subjects for all of the courses on your list?

  6. Example: Commerce at Monash University • You have to successfully complete Mathematic methods or Specialist maths

  7. What are extra requirements? • Folio • Form • Interview • Test • Information session

  8. Example: Nursing at TAFE • You need to fill in a form, go to an interview, do a test and go to an information session

  9. How do I apply? • You have to apply online using the VTAC Online Application.

  10. How do I apply? • Register with MyInfo • Login to MyInfo using your VTAC ID and PIN • Apply for courses

Listing preferences • Course 1 • Course 2 • Course 3 • Course 4 • Course 5 • Course 6 • Course 7 • Course 8 • Course 9 • Course 10 • Course 11 • Course 12 THIS IS THE COURSE I WANT TO DO THE MOST! You must list a minimum of one course to complete an application. You are able to list a maximum of twelve courses.

  13. Things to consider… • Location – There will be some TAFE or universities that are near your house and others that are further away. Only choose courses that you are prepared to travel (or move) to.

  14. Things to consider… • Possible pathways – have you selected courses that you could transfer into another course later • For example: • Nursing at TAFE – Nursing at University • Engineering at TAFE – Engineering at University

  15. Things to consider… • Course content – look at the major studies in the VTAC guide • Length of course – if you are unsure then you might not want to commit to a 3-4 year university course, but do a TAFE course first

  18. How much does it cost? • You must pay a VTAC fee • You can pay by credit card online or they will send you an invoice in the mail.

  19. Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) • SEAS allows you to describe specific circumstances which have adversely affected their education. • There is a category for refugee students. • After you have submitted your course preferences you can apply for SEAS.

  20. How am I selected for a course? • ENTER score • Other selection criteria – folio, interview, pre-selection tests, additional forms, etc.

  21. What is the ENTER? • ENTER = Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Ranking • The highest possible ENTER is 99.95

  22. When do I get my ENTER? • Available mid December • Your VCE study scores, ENTER and ENTER subject scores will be available to you via internet, telephone and SMS services. • All VCE students will also receive a statement of VCE study scores from the VCAA in the mail.

  23. Change of Preference Mid-Late December • This is the time after you receive your ENTER when you have a chance to change your course preferences. • If adding courses, ensure you meet prerequisites and extra requirements

  24. VTAC Offers First Round Offers are sent to you in January VTAC Course 1 Course 2 Course 3 Course 4 Course 5 Course 6 Course 7 Course 8 Always accept or defer your 1st round offer, as you may not get a 2nd round offer

  25. Accepting a VTAC offer • To accept an offer you must enrol in a course and go to the University or TAFE on a specific date and time. • You will find out how to enrol in your offer letter. • If you are unable to attend these times you should contact the University or TAFE

  26. Enrolment dates Round 1 Enrolment: Late January-early February Round 2 Enrolment: Mid February

What if I want to take a year off? • If you have received an offer for a course but you would like to take a year off from study, you might be able to defer. • This means that you delay your starting date for up to one year. • Not all institutes allow deferment, so you need to check with the institution to find out if it is possible and what you need to do to defer.

  28. What if I don’t get a first round offer? • Second round offers may be available • Look For Direct Entry courses • Look For Mid Year Entry courses

Important things to remember • Register, login and apply for VTAC courses • Make sure that you have met the prerequisite subjects and extra requirements • Print an ‘Acknowledgement of Application’ to keep as a record of your application. • Apply for SEAS Access and Equity • Pay your application fee
