TIS REMINDER • Bus departing from Kingswood at 1.00pm Thursday 26th June • Dismissed from Deakin at 3.00pm • Information session on the tertiary application process and the range of post school study opportunities available. • Tertiary Expo - representatives from Victorian universities, TAFEs and independent colleges available to help finalise your post school study options.

  3. WHAT DOES VTAC DO? • Central office that administers the application and offer process for places in tertiary courses at university, TAFE and Independent Tertiary Colleges • VTAC also • Calculates and issues the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for VCE students • Administers SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme) • Administers scholarship applications

VTAC RESOURCES • VTAC Guide Online: http://www.vtac.edu.au/ - free download late July. • VTAC Guide 2015 – available from newsagents late July. • ABC of Applying – copies distributed to you next term. • Distributed to students by VTAC when ATARS released in December • ABC of Scaling • ABC of Offers

  5. Qualifications through VTAC TAFE courses (yellow banner) • Certificates & Diplomas Higher Education courses (blue banner) • Bachelor degrees & Associate Degrees (undergraduate) Post Graduate (orange banner) (not for year 12s)

  6. Searching for courses on VTAC website http://www.vtac.edu.au/ • CourseSearch– general course search function available to the public. • CourseLink– search function for students in years 9-12. • Also refer to individual institution websites.

  7. Scholarship andSEAS applications • Merit scholarships - All applicants applying for courses through VTAC will automatically be considered for merit scholarships by the institutions on their application; no separate application required. • Access and Equity Scholarships for disadvantaged groups – must submit an application through VTAC. • SEAS – a reminder to come and see me ASAP if you consider you have suffered educational disadvantage which has had a detrimental impact on your results.

Scholarships via Direct Application • A huge range of other scholarships available by direct application. • Not all scholarships are ATAR based! • How to find them: • MyFuture: http://www.myfuture.edu.au/tools-and-resources/study-or-training-options/scholarshipsearch • Scholarship resource available next term • Individual institutions • Careers office • While no one is guaranteed a scholarship, you can be guaranteed if you don’t apply, you won’t receive one! .

Application Process Overview • Register to set up a user account; Register in class next termOnce registered applicants can log in and make a course application. • VTAC ID is your VCE number • They can also: • Update your personal details • Change preferences as many times as you like • Lodge a SEAS and scholarships application • Refer to messages • Pay the processing fee • Email VTAC • ATAR (when released in December) • Get an offer (when released in January)

  10. The course application To add course preferences: Select institution and/or course or type in the course code. To move a course on the preference list use the up/down buttons. To delete a course use the x button.

Early Entry Schemes Early offers made to students (subject to meeting minimum ATAR), who can demonstrate: positive impact on local community, volunteering, leadership potential etc. Australian Catholic University Early Entry Program (EAP) • Open – Monday 11 August • Close – Monday 20 October • Outcome advice – end of November Min ATAR for most courses 58.5 La Trobe Aspire Early Admissions Program • Applications Open - 1 July • Applications Close - 31 August • Outcome advice - beginning of September Min ATAR 50 for all courses

Preparation for VTAC applications • Parent & Student VTAC briefing & Tertiary Information evening 31st July. • Pathways Planning sheets to be completed in Wellbeing over 2-3 sessions. • Students to register to set up user account on VTAC website during these sessions. • 1: 1 interviews with Ms Glanvill to finalise course preferences and complete VTAC course application; must have completed planning sheets and bring with you to interview.

Preparation….. • Students not intending to apply for tertiary study in 2015 – should also attend interview to finalise plans for 2015. • SEAS – prepare Impact Statement; if supporting evidence required, make appointment with appropriate ‘Responsible Person’ early! • If applying for Interstate universities as well, make 2nd appointment if you would like assistance to complete application. • TFN – if you do not have one already, see me to apply; required on day of enrolment if applying for HECs or FeeHelp. • Final Information Pack provided in term 4.
