CORE is • the only institute specifically dedicated to research on the OSCE • a relatively young think tank, founded in January 2000 • not a classical academic institution, but one that engages in a combination of research, capacity-building services, publications, and teaching • independent of the OSCE, with which it enjoys good working relations • one of two main sections within the IFSH, one of Germany’s two largest peace research institutes www.core-hamburg.de Beim Schlump 83, 20144 Hamburg

CORE Capacity Building CORE combines basic research on the OSCE and other multilateral organizations with consultancy, capacity building, and other services provided on a contract basis. CORE activities in Central Asia Since 2002, CORE has undertaken projects in all the Central Asian states except Turkmenistan and has engaged in co-operation with Central Asia experts. CORE’s most prominent projectin Central Asia involves mediating in a peacebuilding dialogue between moderate Islamists and secular forces.
