US IT Industry • Digital Planet 2002 Report: Some key findings • Global ICT spending grew from $2.3 trillion to $2.4 trillion in 2001 • Developing world outpaced the developed in ICT growth • China is the fastest growing ICT nation, 27% in 2001 • Internet had 522 million users worldwide in 2001, up 123 million from 2000 • B2B and B2C E-commerce grew 79% between 2000 and 2001
US IT Industry • Digital Planet: US Key Facts 2001 • U.S. remains world leader in aggregate 2001 ICT spending with $812.6 billion • IT Hardware Spending: $136,051 billion • Software Spending: $96,556 billion • IT Services Spending: $199, 203 billion • Telecommunications Spending: $265,954 billion • ICT spending per GDP: 7,9% • ICT spending per Capita: $2,924 • Internet Commerce % of Total Commerce: 0.8%
US IT Industry • Digital Planet 2002: US IT Market • U.S. accounts for 40% of worldwide B2B and 56% of B2C spending. But other countries are moving up fast. China online B2B spending is 60 times what it was in 1999 • The U.S.grew less than 1% in 2001. • ICT as a percentage of GDP dropped in the U.S. from a high of 8.2% in 1999 to 7.9% in 2001, suggesting that the ICT industry in the U.S. is losing ground faster than the economy as a whole.
