  2. Island • An area of land completely surrounded by water

  3. Lake • A large body of water surrounded by land

  4. River • A large stream of water that flows into a lake or ocean or other body of water

  5. Delta • A triangular deposit of sand and soil that collects at the mouth of some rivers

  6. Mouth • The part of a river where its waters flow into another body of water

  7. Channel • A narrow deep waterway connecting two bodies of water OR the deepest part of a river or waterway

  8. Valley • Low land between hills or mountains

  9. Cape • A point of land extending into a body of water

  10. Mountain Range • A row of connected mountains

  11. Peninsula • Land surrounded by water on all sides but one

  12. Gulf • Part of an ocean extending into land and usually larger than a bay

  13. Mountain • A land form with high elevation and a pointed or rounded top higher than a hill

  14. Volcano • An opening in the earth’s surface through which steam and ashes and lava are forced out

  15. Strait • A narrow waterway connecting two large bodies of water

  16. Tributary • A stream or river that flows into a larger stream or river

  17. Desert • A dry barren region that may be sandy without trees

  18. Bay • Part of an ocean or lake extending into land and usually smaller than a gulf

  19. Plain • A broad and flat or gently rolling area usually low in elevation

  20. Archipelago • A group of many islands

  21. Oasis • A fertile place in the desert where there is water and some vegetation

  22. Canal • A waterway dug across land through which ships can pass

  23. Swamp • Low wet land that supports grass and trees

  24. Glacier • A huge mass of ice that moves slowly down a mountain

  25. Harbor • A sheltered area of water where ships can anchor safely

  26. Marsh • Low land with moist soil and tall grass

  27. Timberline • Line on a mountain above which it is too cold for trees to grow

  28. Canyon • Deep narrow valley with steep sides

  29. Bluff • High steep face or rock or earth

  30. Plateau • Area of high flat land with steep sides

  31. Foothill • Hill area at the base of a mountain

  32. Mesa • Flat mountain top with steep sides

  33. Waterfall • Steep drop from a high place to a lower place in a stream or river

  34. Sea • Body of salt water smaller than an ocean

  35. Coast • Land along a sea or ocean
