Eating Habits • Forages on the bottom of river for food. • Prey include: works insects crustaceans, and small vertebrates such as tadpoles. • Food is then carried to surface in cheek pouches and then eaten.
Breeding • Occurs on the spring • Mating takes place in the water • 1 to 3 eggs are laid in nesting burrow • Eggs hatch after 10 to 12 days
Other interesting facts • The male has a spur on the inner side of each hind limb. • The platypus is a cousin to the anteater. • The platypus can consume up to half of it’s body weight.
