Where can we find this unusual animal? The Duckbilled Platypuses are found only in eastern Australia in fresh lakes and, along edges of rivers.
What does the Platypus look like? The platypus has a duck bill, webbed feet, elongated snout covered with soft, moist, leathery skin and sensitive nerve endings. They have a beaver’s tail! They have three different furs. 1. an inside layer to trap air and keep the animal warm. 2. a middle layer which works like a wet suit. 3. an outer layer to feel if it is close to objects. Their fur is oily. Their tails are used for steering. Their bills are soft and rubbery.
What does the Platypus eat?What eats the Platypus ? The platypuses eat worms, shrimp, small crayfish, snakes, and aquatic insect larvae. They find their food in edges of rivers. They get it by dabbing their bills in the in mud or silt. The platypus's predator, was a human because they used to kill the platypuses and get their fur for warmth. Now it is illegal to kill a platypus.
How does the Platypus take care of its babies? The platypuses lay eggs and they are mammals! They lay their eggs in the burrows they dig.They have only one to three eggs. Their eggs are leathery and white. When the babies are born they crawl to their mother’s stomach and lick milk off their mother’s stomach. The babies lick milk from a secreted pore on their mother’s stomachs.
How does the Platypus communicate? When the platypus wants their predators to go away they try to scratch them with their spurs on their hind legs and venom goes into the animal. The platypus growls for their territory and to scare away predators. The cluck like a hen for playmates.
What makes the Platypus unique? The unique platypus can only be found in Australia. It is a mammal and it lays eggs! They look very strange, like a duck, and a beaver stuck together!

Reflections: I learned a lot with this project. I learned a lot about the Duckbilled Platypus. I learned how to do a Power Point and cut and paste words and pictures. I had fun researching with my partner.
