Background The BC Aboriginal Workforce Strategy (BCAWS) is an employer engagement strategy shaped by: • BC’s 10 First Nations AHRDAs • ACCESS - Urban AHRDA • Metis AHRDA • Aboriginal Post-Secondary Coordinators • BC Association of Friendship Centers • Employer representatives • Service Canada, Indian and Northern Affairs (INAC), and the Ministry for Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation (MARR). BC Aboriginal Workforce Strategy

Program Design • The BCAWS is designed to: • Identify real and pertinent information about a company’s employment and economic opportunities and to share this information with Aboriginal Employment, Training, Education and business interest organizations in order that they will become more aware of the career, procurement and training opportunities within our partner companies. • Build the capacity of our partner companies to effectively recruit and engage the aboriginal community by playing a facilitative role to link our partner companies with the Aboriginal community so that they may develop strategies and action plans for working together to increase aboriginal workforce participation.   5. Program Successes! On January 12th & 13th, 2006, Aboriginal Job Seekers attended an exciting Job Fair with one of our employer partners, Thrifty Foods. BC Aboriginal Workforce Strategy
