POS self report • Examples given: • 1. to what degree are you able to feed yourself, to get up and down, use the toilet and dress yourself? • 2. Are you learning skills to do more things, are you involved in any form of education? • 3. Do you have access to information you are interested in? (newspaper,magazine, internet, library)
POS direct observation • Examples given • 1. How would you rate the degree to which the person does the following daily living activities: feed himself, dress himself, get up and down • 2.How many skills has the person learned or educational experiences in the last 6-12 months? • 3. To what degree has the person access to information?
Conclusion • This alignment between SIS, Individual Supports Plan and Quality of Life, creates an excellent opportunity to support people methodically in improving their quality of life: measuring quality of life gets a place in a support methodology, with the aim to continuously improve the quality of life of people. • Besides improving the process of individual planning, it creates the conditions for a Management Information System in which the core business of the organisation, supporting people and improving the quality of life of the persons it supports, is at the centre: personal outcomes can thus be used to guide organizational change and improvement:
Critical issues The same amount of money The same regulations and law The same variety and type of clients The same parents and social network The same critisism of the outside world The same fear/uncertainty about future
Chances The economical crisis: creativity Drop-outs in work and school: more support and assistance is needed The grow of personal isolation: more emotional and social connections needed The need of family, friends for person with a disabilty to keep involved in each others life
Challenge The person with disabiltiy is not at the centre on his own, but The person with his personal network is at the centre, supported and assisted by professionals in a transparant system
Conditions A full concept of Quality of Life in living, work and learning! A minimum of hierarchy in the organization; selfmanaging teams in a transparant system Aim at and connect talents and preferences of all people Bridge interaction and communication Believe in possibilities!
