History London hosted the Olympic Games in 1908 and 1948,and is hosting a third in 2012. The 2012 SummerOlympics make London the first city to have hosted themodern games of three Olympiads. London is the only city in the United Kingdom to have ever hosted the Olympics;the United States is the only country to have hostedSummer Olympics on more occasions than the UK. The British is also participating Olympic events, both as acompetitor and as a host, is the responsibility of the BritishOlympic Association. The first game of the London Olympics was in 776 B.C.E. There are no gold or silver medal, the winner just receive an olive branch. The 1896 games were held in Athens, Greece. In 1920, there were 29 nations represented. In 1924, the number rose to 44. The five Olympic rings and the five colours of the Olympic flags symbolize the fact that the Olympics are open to athletes from all parts of the world, of any colours and nationality.
