  3. The sex of an individual affects his or her chances for living below the poverty level. A female is more likely to live below the poverty level. Therefore, a higher percentage of female respondents live below the poverty level in comparison to the percentage of male respondents who live below the poverty level. Black males and females are more likely to live below the poverty level in comparison to white male and females. Therefore, the percentages of Black individuals living below the poverty level are higher than White individuals living below the poverty level.   8. Relationship Between Sex and Persons Below Poverty Level Controlling for Race • In both sexes, Blacks have higher percentages of respondents that live blow the poverty. Black females are the most likely to live below the poverty level as 26.2 percent of respondents live below the poverty level in comparison to 22.4 percent of white female, 9.1 percent of white male, and 22 percent of black males respondents. • Poverty effects more Blacks than it effects Whites whether male or female.
