Everyday uses of the Brain • The brain controls everything that we do. • It’s unique • Every animal you can think of has a brain • It has about 3 billion cells and only weighs 3 lbs.
The brain and everything in it! • The brain is like a bundle of phone wires and receptors • Cells in the brain are called neurons • The brain acts like an on/off switch • There is an electric current that passes through witch is equal to 60 watt light bulb.
The Brain while Sleeping • Breathing sets an estimated 10 billion nerve cells off to ignite. • Body temperature rises between 2 and 5 a.m. • 4 stages of sleep • Stage one- relaxing • Stage two-sleep • Stage three- deepersleep • Stage four- delta sleep
The Two Brains • There are two sides to our brain • Left and right hemisphere • The lefts side also controls speech and sight • Bundle of nerve fibers connect the two hemispheres.
The Power of Emotion • The frontal lobe plays a role in emotion • Neurologists did a study on monkeys removing portions of the temporal lobe. • Monkeys showed that they were not afraid of humans or any other enemy of theirs. • Concluding that the left hemisphere does control your emotions.
