AFSA is a congressionally chartered professional military organization • - Founded in 1961 and dedicated to all Air Force members • - Dedicated to all those who have served in the cause of America’s freedoms. • Not-for-profit organization that presents the professional and personal interests of the Total Air Force enlisted members in active, retired, or veteran status and their families. • AFSA is a leading member organization in The Military Coalition and associated with the Council of Military Organizations and Ad Hoc Committee. • Highly respected on Capitol Hill, within the White House, and by all community leaders, commanders, and senior commissioned and noncommissioned leaders at all levels. Prior to AFSA, military members did not have a voice on Capitol Hill. • Congress was questioning promises about education benefits, health care, pay, and a fair quality of life (all during the Cold War). • AFSA founded on May 3, 1961 as a “war veterans” organization • Today is an international organization with chapters in the U.S., Europe, and Far East History
To maintain, within the United States AFAD, ANG, and AFRC, a highly dedicated and professional corps of enlisted personnel • To uphold fair and equitable legislation and departmental policies, and influence, by lawful means, departmental plans, programs, policies, and legislation affecting enlisted personnel of the USAF to include AFAD, AFRC, ANG, retirees, and other AF enlisted veterans. • To actively publicize the roles of enlisted personnel in the USAF. • To participate in civil and military activities, youth programs, and fund-raising campaigns of benefit to the USAF. AFSA is currently involved in: - Military Pay – FY13 NDAA authorizes a 1.7 pay increase and extends bonuses and special pay. - TRICARE Pharmacy Copays – Rejecting increasing copays - Commission on military pay – attempting to reduce the power Congress has over lowering our pay. - Suicide prevention – bill to develop a comprehensive policy on the prevention of suicide among service members. - Aircraft – bill allows continued funding of various airframes and related systems.
