Elected and Appointed Positions Elected Positions: President, Vice President and three Trustees Appointed Positions: Secretary, Treasurer, other Trustees, Family Matters, Committee Chairmanships, Senior Advisor and Airman Activity Coordinator and/or Project Officers as determined by the Chapter President

  4. Chapter Officer Terms of Office • Chapter/Appointed Officers generally serve 1 or 2 year terms. • Elections occur in January of each year unless your Division President (DP) approves a waiver for a different date. • Chapters at remote tour locations may create standing rules (approved by DP) outlining shorter terms of office (generally six months) to better manage responsibilities at their locations. • Elected or Appointed Officers will assume office NLT 90 days following an election or appointment.

  5. Notice of Elections • Chapters MUST notify their membership at least 30 days prior to the convening of the annual election membership meeting. • The notification will include what positions are up for election. • The Senior Advisor chairs the election process.

  6. Removal of Chapter Officer • The Chapter Executive Council in its discretion may remove any chapter officer for dereliction of duties. • Grounds for removal include unexcused absences from scheduled meetings.

  7. Quorum Requirements • A quorum must exist prior to conducting official business. Chapters may adopt local Standing Rules employing different quota requirements and/or suspension of quorum procedures provided their Standing Rule is approved by the Division Executive Council prior to implementation. • Chapter size/Number of AFSA Members who MUST be Present 501—or more 20 201—500 15 25—200 10 NOTE: If a quorum is not present, see AFSAM 100-2, Principle 5, Section 10d, for guidance on suspending quorum requirements.

  8. Voting and Eligibility to Hold Office Active Members: Have full voting rights and eligible to hold office within AFSA. Family Members: Have full voting rights and eligible to hold elected Chapter office. Associate Members: Unable to vote or hold office in AFSA. Honorary Members: Unable to vote or hold office in AFSA.

  9. Summary • Important to know and understand the process. • Ensure you have current manuals to reference. When in doubt, look it up—do NOT guess at what the procedure may be. • Check membership status of those attending election meetings and of those seeking elected office. • Be organized.
