What does VTAC do? • Central office that administers the application and offer process for places in tertiary courses at university, TAFE and Independent Tertiary Colleges. • VTAC also: • Calculates and issues the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for VCE students • Administers scholarship applications • Administers SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme) • http://www.vtac.edu.au/

Top tips for reading a course entry • Read the details in course entries carefully. • No current Year12 has to sit STAT for courses in Victoria. • Check Selection Requirementsfor Year 12 students! • Selection data is last year’s info – ATAR a guide only.
Application Process Overview • Register to set up a user account • VTAC ID is your VCAA number • Once registered, you can log in and start course application. • You can also: • Update your personal details • Change preferences as many times as you like • Lodge a SEAS and scholarships application • Refer to messages • Pay the processing fee • Email VTAC • View ATAR (when released in December) • View offer (when released in January)
Course Application You can list up to 12 courses Preference order – always list them in the order you want to get into the course Course preferences To add course preferences: Select institution and/or course or type in the course code(quicker) To move a course on the preference list use the up/down buttons. To delete a course use the x button.
Payment Payment is online via debit or credit card or PayPal. • Processing fees: • $28.00 timely (30 Sept) • $93.00 late (7 Nov) • $119.00 very late (5 Dec) • Pay pal, debit or credit Any questions about what we’ve covered so far?
The ATAR • Is not a score • Is not out of 100, it is a rank between 0.00 and 99.95 • An ATAR of 75.00 means in the top 25% of Year 12 students. • Very few courses select only on the ATAR. • Folio, auditions, interviews, forms, personal statements, subject bonus, SEAS
Calculating the ATAR • Primary 4: English plus three other permissible scorable studies + • 5th and/or 6th increment
ATAR Release • VCE ATAR released at 7am Monday 15 December 2014 • SMS • Internet • Mail delivery beginning next day
Change of Preference • You can change your preferences: • 4th August until 24th October • 24th November until 22nd December (noon)
Negotiated Offers • Can be used to apply for courses: • Lower on preference list • Not included on preference list • Available after Round 1 offers are made (from 20 January 2015) • Apply through VTAC User Account • No guarantees
Supplementary Offers • For applicants who have given permission on their VTAC application, and have not received an offer in previous rounds • Great last chance option!
Scholarships through VTAC • Merit (ATAR based): • Automatically considered for scholarships by institutions included on your VTAC application – don’t need to apply separately • Equity and Access: VTAC scholarship application required; • Financial disadvantage • Other equity and access groups as determined by institution (see VTAC Guide)

Preparation for VTAC applications • Briefing next Monday on preparing for VTAC application and completing VTAC registration • Pathways Planning sheets to be completed in Wellbeing over 2-3 sessions. • Students to register to set up user account on VTAC website during these sessions. • 1: 1 interviews with Ms Glanvill to finalise course preferences and complete VTAC course application
