propriety colony: Write - king issued charter granting land ownership to person or group - owner had full rights to - govern & - distribute land - established: - safe for Quakers to worship Pennsylvania
royal colony: Write - operated directly by Great Britain’s (GR BRIT) government - through a royal governor appointed by the king - all profits went to GR BRIT’s government - no colony’s started this way - by end of colonial period most colonies were royal
Write (20 years) - 1732 – 2 decades GA – trustee colony - 21 men inc. James Oglethorpe (JO) interested in charity named as trustees - trustee –a person placed in an official position of trust to act on behalf of someone else
